Dr. Cynthia S. Kelley has worked in higher education for 27 years. She began her career as a public
school teacher. In 1991 she became an instructor of education at West Virginia University at
Parkersburg. While at Parkersburg she assisted in the development of the first bachelor's degree
program to be offered in a community college in West Virginia. She held the rank of full professor
and served as faculty senate president as a faculty member. She has also served in positions of
associate dean, dean of academic affairs, and vice president for academic affairs and student
services.
In 2008, Dr. Kelley was named an American Council on Education Fellow. During the Fellowship
Year she visited over 25 colleges including a six-month residency at Owens Community College in
Toledo, Ohio. She has also served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Student Services at
Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College. Before coming to Madisonville Community
College, Dr. Kelley served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Motlow State Community
College in Lynchburg, Tennessee. She serves on the Commission for Academic, Student, and
Community Development for the American Association of Community Colleges. Dr. Kelley earned a
Ph.D. at Ohio University and an M.A. from West Virginia University.
In July, 2016, Dr. Kelley was appointed as the 4th President of Madisonville Community College.
Locally, Dr. Kelley is a member of several community service organizations including Rotary Club,
Lions Club, and Hopkins County Business & Professional Women's Club. She also serves on several
boards and committees, such as the United Way of the Coalfield, Hopkins County Regional Chamber
of Commerce, Madisonville-Hopkins County Economic Development Corporation, Muhlenberg Job
Corps Center, Webster County Work Ready Community and Hopkins County Work Ready
Community. |
